Information about Polytechnics :

 Polytech offers 3 years Diploma (Pharmacy - 2 years and Marine Engineering - 4 years) courses in Engineering Technology along with 1.5 years Post Diploma courses and 4 years part-time Evening Diploma Courses.

 Adoption of comprehensive plan to make optimum use of resourses and infrastructure to cope with the rapid change in the technological and Scientific world. It has brought a massive colourful change in the total scenario in the field of Technician Education in this state during the last two decades.

In order to open up opportunities of Technical Education for women, two new women's polytechnics have been started with suitable disciplines in North Bengal as well as in South Bengal out of 42 polytechnics sanctioned.

Information about Industrial Training Institute:

At the Craftsman training level NCVT (National Council of Vocational Training) recognised courses are imparted through 29 Industrial Training Institutes, 20 Industrial Training Centres, (Govt. sponsored), one junior Polytechnic and Private Institute / centres, to meet up the demand for skill personnel at the shop floor level both in the organised and unorganized Sectors.

Besides the craftsman training scheme, there is other training schemes like NAT part-time evening courses on Industrial Workers Schemes, Basic Training Centres, etc.

These 29 Industrial Training Institutes including 4 Women Industrial Training Institutes, 20 Industrial Training Centres, one junior polytechnic and private Institute Centres are imparting training in 39 numbers of different trades recognized by NCVT.

Each trainee possessing BPL card is paid stipend @ Rs. 40/- per month by the state.

To make the trainees acquainted with the modern working environment in Industry educational tour in the vicinity of the respective Institutes are organized at the time of ending of the course in different trades. Part-time classes for Industrial workers are under taken to upgrade the theoretical knowledge of Industrial workers employed in various Industries. The duration of the courses is two years conducted by State Council for Vocatinal Training in 6 Industrial Training Institutes from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Total intake under this scheme is this State is approximately 1000.

In order to foster a spirit of healthy competetion among the trainees of the Institutes and with a view to raising the standard of skiil, state level skill competetion being held every year in this state. Also All India Skill Competition is being conducted by DGET & T at National Level.

Information about Industrial Training Centre (JTS) :-
All the 20 Industrial Training centres are sponsored institutions and are fully funded by the Government.
These centres offer trade courses under affiliation of NCVT.

Information about Community Polytechnic :

The scheme of community Polytechnic was started under the District Central Assistance Scheme in 1978 - 79 in 1 Polytechnic.

The scheme envisaged the community Polytechnics to act as focal points for science and technology allpications in rural areas and generate self and wage employment opportunities through non - formal training towards competency and need based courses in various trades.

The community polytechnic is not a separate institution. It is a wing attached to the regular Polytechnic under the Direct Central Assistance scheme of Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD)

At present 37 community Polytechnics are operational in the State and these Polytechnics are making significant contribution in producing skilled manpower for informal Sector, through 170 Extension Centres all over the state.
