Information about Short Term Vocational Training Programme

A sizeable proportion of the passed - out candidates from Madhyamik and Higher Secondary level either do not get admission in higher level of studies or somehow continue the higher education without much purpose. To divert this section of candidates towards a job - oriented program, Govt. in the Department of Technical Education & Training have introduced the program on short - term Vocational Training.

The Scheme is implemented through the Polytechnics ITI, Junior Technical Schools, Municipal Bodies, Non-Government Organizations (NGO S), Industries, Schools, Colleges, Club and other Educational Institutions.

All the courses offered under STVT programme are of 6 months duration.

West Bengal State Council of Technical Education, a statutory Body under the West Bengal Act XXI of 1995 is responsible for development of curricular and also for conduct of examination and award of certificates .s

- There are other institutes who are offering Vocational Training in different training in different trades for the school dropouts, neo - literate and belonging to economically backward communities with financial assistance from this Department.

West Bengal State Council of Technical Education :
A statutory Body under West Bengal Act XXI of 1995 to under- take following activities :-

- Survey in various fields of technical education, collect data on all related matters and make forecast of required growth and development in technical education.
· Lay down norms and standards for Courses, Curricula, Physical and Instrumental facilities Staff pattern, Staff qualifications, quality instructions, assessment and examinations.
· Assess performance of Institutions on the basis of guidelines, norms and standard specified by the A.I.C.T.E.
· Conduct examination and grant certificates and Diploma to Students who have successfully completed the course of study in any recognized polytechnic or Institution.
· Advise the state Government on all matters relating to technical and training in West Bengal.
